Launch Akamai Venture Accelerator (LAVA)
LAVA is a $2 million venture accelerator program, funded by the Hawaii State Legislature via Act 170, SLH 2012, whose purpose is to promote the establishment of venture accelerators in Hawaii. Venture Accelerators provide entrepreneurs with a structured framework to build and launch their businesses by providing promising entrepreneurs with mentors, seed capital, supporting resources, and exposure to follow-on investment capital for future growth and expansion. Venture Accelerators promote collaboration and community building by providing a facility for up to 10 companies at a time to work side by side building their businesses. Currently LAVA provides funding to the Blue Startups venture accelerator, founded by Henk Rogers, and the GVS Transmedia Accelerator, founded by David L. Cunningham.
In addition, Hawaii has a clean energy accelerator, Energy Excelerator, a university accelerator program, XLR8UH, and a social impact accelerator, Hawaii Investment Ready. All are available to entrepreneurs interested in launching their businesses in Hawaii.
